Julia Burns

Artist

Born in County Durham, Julia Burns studied painting at The Slade from where she graduated in 1985.

Throughout her career she has won several prizes and awards which started in 1978 when she won The Children’s Royal Society of Arts Bronze Medal, the highest prize awarded to an exhibitor from the British Isles and Commonwealth and the following year she carried off the Gold, Silver and Bronze awards from the Painter Stainers Guild in London.

Since then she has exhibited worldwide, most notably in London Europe, Japan and the U.S.A. and has undertaken numerous private commissions both here and abroad. Her paintings are extremely popular with prominent collectors of contemporary art.

Julia now lives with her husband and two children in North Yorkshire.

I have known that I was an abstract artist from a very early age because it was always abstract work that I was drawn to. But it wasn’t until I was in my 40’s and had had my children, that I found my  own visual voice and produced my first truly abstract painting …EURIKA!!
